TIMES JOGJA, JAKARTA – Situbondo has a stunning destination called Kampung Blekok. This place has been introduced to public since 2019. Situated on 29,6 hectares wide area this place has become a popular tourist destination since then. 

Mostly covered with mangrove trees, this destination has become one most favorite place for local wading birds to rest and lay their egg. In late afternoon, you could see them fly over the mangrove forest just to come back to their nest to rest during the night. 

This place has been listed on top 50 best of Anugerah Desa Wisata Indonesia (ADWI0 2021 or the Indonesia Tourism Village Award 2021. It event got the first position as the number one start up tourism village. 

This award given for a reason. The way the local management took it as an ecotourism destination has made the place worth the title. Not to mention the number of visitor coming to this place which also raise the local welfare. 

Kampung Blekok Filled with Wading Bird

The name of the tourism village was derived after the numerous number of Blekok or wading bird which also known as heron nestled in the mangrove forest. There are thousands of blekok or heron flew over the forest.  

They will casually walk over the beach even when there was some visitors nearby, just like those tame pigeons you found on the street. These herons will show your their magnificent skill of catching small fishes on the water.

These wading also put small crabs on their diet. Almost anything moving on the water surface or beach will be their food. For those who willing to have more absolute view about this bird you could ride a boat and head to a separated island in the Eastern side of from Kampung Blekok.

In this island, not only the herons but there are around 11 other species of birds cultured in this place. It will be a great thing to see those birds nesting and do their activities. 

The Beautiful Sunset at Kampung Blekok 

This area is covered with lush green mangroves all over the surface. At the end of the forest where the trees meet the coastline, the management added a nice shade and some benches to rest and relax. 

You will need to walk on wooden path for at least ten minutes to reach this destination. The exotic view of the forest will keep your eyes wondering of how beautiful it is. The nice clean typical ocean air will make you feel like you were in the middle of the heaven. 

Not to mention the beautiful view you get once you reach the board. On this place you will be able to enjoy golden glow of sunset in from the West. This will surely be a nice thing to have. So, make sure you have more time to witness the beauty of Kampung Blekok Situbondo. (*)
